“It’s just a job, how hard can it be?” I was hired by his father to become his live-in caregiver. It sounded like an easy job. But the day I arrived at his broken-down Scottish castle I started to realize it might not be as easy as I thought. I was not told that I’d be looking after a dark, brooding, rich man mired in a world of pain. I was not told that this man would push all my buttons and test even my strongest limits. I was not told that he was devastatingly gorgeous with a wickedly, sinful mouth. I was definitely not told that what I’d end up feeling and what he would propose would drive me wild. But I’m Annie and this is my new job. And damn it, I’m not going to let anything, even him, that gorgeous, sinful, delicious man, stand in my way. You believe me? Don’t you?

BRIANNA

Why’d I bait Liam like that?

I slip into a pair of shorts and fresh T-shirt and fling myself down on the bed.

I’d never, ever date one of Liam’s friends.

Date. I have to be out of my damn mind to be worried about dating.

The front door opens. There’s a pause and then it clicks shut.

The thud of Liam kicking off his shoes.

I exhale hard and realize I’d been holding my breath. Afraid I’d chased Liam away.

Scooting off the bed, I work out an apology in my mind. I stop and pull my hair out of its ponytail and brush it until it’s not as ratty.

I open the door and find Liam standing across the hall, leaning against the wall. Both arms crossed over his chest. The same way he’d watched me at the gym, except here in the house, he seems so much larger. His biceps and forearms bulge in a way that sends heat zipping through me.

“Hey,” he says.

My mouth’s too dry to answer. I run my tongue over my lower lip, and Liam’s gaze follows the movement.

“What are you doing? Holding up the wall?”

Except for a tiny quirk at the corners of his mouth, his expression doesn’t change.

His silence flips my annoyed switch.

“What is this, Liam? Some sort of cop interrogation technique?”

That gets his attention. He crosses the short distance, invading my space. Making me aware of his size and strength.

“Maybe. Want to tell me what you meant out there?” He jerks his head to the side.

I don’t answer. Instead I study his expression. His eyes seem to simmer with desire. But lord knows I’ve been wrong before.

“Shouldn’t I get a warning, Deputy Hollister?”

That finally makes him chuckle. “Sure. Anything you say, can and will be held against you.”

Game on.

I lift an eyebrow in silent challenge.

“In that case, Liam,” I say, using my huskiest voice.

I’m rewarded with a sharp intake of breath.

My heart thumps as he comes closer, leaning down to whisper in my ear. “Baby girl, you are playing with fire.”

He settles his hands on my hips and pulls me closer. Taking a chance, I wrap my arms around his neck. “I can handle the burn.”

Everything fades away the second his lips brush against mine. His cinnamon taste tingles over my lips. The slow slide of his tongue against mine sends heat boiling through my body.

Finally.

That’s right. Finally. He’s been rejecting me for days. Bracing my hands on his shoulders, I push him back.

“Wait a second. I showed some interest in your friend, so now you kiss me?” Anger and desire won’t stop warring inside me. I try to shove past him to go outside and clear my head, but he’s impossible to move.

He watches me for a moment then takes a step back.

“That’s not it, Bree. You’re Vince’s sister. I’m supposed to be watching out for you.”

“I appreciate that, Liam. I do. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me.” My throat tightens. “But I can take care of myself.”

“I know you can, baby girl.”

My gaze drops to the floor. “Why can’t you ever see me as Brianna? Not baby girl. Not Vince’s little sister. Just me.”

He steps closer, and runs the back of his hand over my cheek. “I see you.”

Release Blitz & Review - The Difference Between Us by Rachel Higginson

Blurb for The Difference Between Us:

I’m cursed.

At least when it comes to finding Mr. Right.

I’m tired of men that only want one night stands or blind dates that are nothing but awkward and uncomfortable. I’m tired of avoiding inappropriate text messages and the constant disappointment of always meeting Mr. Wrong.

After all these years of dates that lead nowhere, I can admit that it’s me. I’m the problem. I’m shy and picky and cursed. Definitely cursed.

So I’ve decided two things.

The first? I’m giving up dating and relationships and men in general. Maybe, possibly, forever.

The second? I’m going to have to try harder to avoid Ezra Baptiste.

If I couldn’t hack it in the kiddy pool of dating, I certainly can’t swim in his deep end. He’s too successful. Too intense. He’s all man when I’m used to nothing but boys pretending to be grownups. He’s everything I’m afraid to want and so far out of my league we might as well be different species entirely.

So he’ll need to find a different artist to paint his mural. And a different graphic designer to help him with his website. He’ll need to find someone else to glare at and flirt with and kiss.

It can’t be me.

We’re too different.

My phone buzzed with an incoming email and I resisted the urge to check it during the middle of spin class. I could wait to open it. I didn’t need to know what it said just this second.

Really, it would be fine.

It could wait.

I could wait.

The sender could wait until after I’d sweated off the three pounds of pasta I’d gained this week from my favorite Italian takeout spot to hear back from me.

I couldn’t help the small smile of anticipation that lifted the corners of my mouth though or the way I suddenly didn’t notice the pain from pushing up the hill climb at five-forty-five a.m. Resisting the urge to pick up my phone, I opted for my water bottle instead.

But even after a big, refreshing gulp, I still didn’t manage to lose the smile.

“Why do you look happy?” Vera panted next to me, her legs moving approximately one thousand miles per hour. “You should be miserable right now. At the very least you should be contemplating puking. No smiling.”

“I think I see Jesus,” I wheezed said serenely. “I’ve pedaled myself to death. He’s coming to get me.”

Vann chuckled on my other side. “This is only the warmup.”

“Stop showing off, Vann.” My smile disappeared. “We get it. You’re a super cyclist. The bike seat up your ass isn’t bothering you at all. Stop bragging.” To Vera, I said, “Why did you invite him again?”

“Hey!” Vann protested.

She rolled her eyes. “I didn’t invite him. I tried very hard to keep this a secret from him. But when he heard we were doing something bicycle related, he invited himself.”

“I’m here to motivate you,” he said seriously. “This is good for you girls. You both are in serious need of some cardio.”

“Your face is in serious need of some cardio,” Vera snarled back. At my look of not-the-best-insult-you’ve- ever-come-up-with, she shrugged. “My brain is still sleepy.”

Vann leaned forward on his bike, lifting his bum off the seat and adjusting his bike to make it harder for himself. Because he was crazy and liked weird things- like exercise. This was the end of our friendship forever. I officially hated him. His overachieving did nothing to motivate me to work harder. This was it. This was as hard as I spinned. Spun? My brain was sleepy too.

2. “Are you okay?” he asked with that smooth, even voice that could not be ruffled or perturbed. Ever so elegantly, I pulled myself from my tangled thoughts and replied, “Huh?”
“You seem tense,” he added.
Champagne forced the truth from my lips. “You make me nervous.”
His concentrated gaze found mine. “Why?”

Oh, how to answer that loaded question. I tilted my head to the side, my long hair fell over my shoulder and I confessed, “Probably because the first time we met, you told me my style was juvenile at best.”

His eyebrows drew down. “I didn’t say that.”

The truth strengthened my courage and I added, “You also said that your clientele was too wealthy for my cheap taste, and that if I ever wanted to make it in this city I was going to have to try harder.”

His eyebrows dipped further. “That doesn’t sound like something I would say.”

I laughed. I couldn’t help it. He looked so... affronted! “Are you serious? That sounds exactly like something you would say!” I felt myself loosen up in his arms. His hand pressed tighter against my back, drawing me closer to him. “You asked me for advice and then hated everything I had to say.”

“That’s not at all how I remember it,” he countered, referencing the first time we’d met. Vera and I had made reservations at Lilou and then waited six weeks to get in. When we finally did, Killian had given us the five-star treatment, but Ezra had stopped by our table for all of five minutes. Just long enough to insult me. He continued, “I distinctly remember you calling me an old man with dated taste and a tacky dinosaur of a website.”

I was positive my expression was a mirror image of his, insulted, outraged and maybe, possibly a little ashamed. “I wouldn’t say those things,” I countered. “I’m not that bold.”

His laugh was hard, bit out with the barest amounts of real amusement. “Molly, every single thing about you says otherwise.”

My name is Toni Aleo and I’m a total dork.
I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.
I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.
… and did I mention I love hockey?

REVIEW

4.5 stars

I just knew I was going to like this book as soon as I read the synopsis. Modern day pirate stories are pretty rare in the indie romance world but I find them intriguing.

Willow has lead a very lonely life as the daughter of two famous treasure hunters. They were never around and always off seeking the next hunt. While she had the love of her grandfather the loneliness brought out the dreamer in her. One of her dreams is to have her own dive team someday. Willow is searching for the romanticism in the hunt and the stories behind them; not the wealth it could bring. This leads her to find the biggest treasure of her life winning the heart of Noah her bad boy pirate.

L.A. Fiore put great detail in this story and it really felt like you were reading an adventure on the high seas. The story takes you from the beginning of Noah’s life on the streets and tells you how he ends up a pirate. It also starts with learning a bit about Willow’s beginnings and her first encounter with Noah. It was one day that impacted them forever. Willow leaves that day with a wonderful memory and a journal. The journal tells the story of two star crossed lovers, a missing shipwreck, and a necklace. As you can imagine she absorbs the story and starts years of research trying to find the Isabella.

Noah and Willow were both great characters. Noah is what you would expect of a pirate. He is sexy, commanding, and he makes no apologies for the things he has to do. Willow is strong and brave and determined to get all she wants out of life. Too many people have disappointed her but she still jumps in with both feet and runs into adventure instead of away from it.

The twists and turns in the story were great and lots of villains to keep things interesting. I especially loved Noah’s crew and Willow’s best friend Zoe coming along for the adventure made things fun. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Well done!

COVER REVEAL - Dirty Headlines by L.J. Shen

"I laughed, I swooned, I sighed, I smiled and cheered for these two lonely souls. By far one of my favorite books of 2018!"- ...
