Release Blitz & Review - If You Were Mine by Melanie Harlow

If You Were Mine, an all-new sexy and emotional standalone from USA Today Bestselling author Melanie Harlow is available now!

If You Were Mine

by Melanie Harlow

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Theo MacLeod wasn’t supposed to be the one.
Tall, dark and handsome suits me just fine, but the cocky grin, know-it-all attitude, and mammoth ego? No thanks. I only hired him so I wouldn’t have to sit at the singles table again. It was just pretend.
He wasn’t supposed to kiss me.
My heart wasn’t supposed to pound.
We weren’t supposed to spend the night together—the hottest night of my life.
One night turns into a snowed-in weekend away, and even the blizzard of the century can’t cool the fire between us. I can’t get enough—of his smile, of his body, of the way he makes me feel.
We’re nothing alike. He’s a daredevil, and I’m a nervous Nellie. He’s a drifter, and I want to put down roots. He’s an opportunist with a checkered past, and I’m a Girl Scout volunteer.
But none of it matters when I’m in his arms.
I know he’s made mistakes. I know his wounds are deep, and he doesn’t trust easily. I know he doesn’t believe he could ever be enough to make me happy, but he could.
All he has to do is stay.

SHANDA'S 4.5 star Review

Claire is facing the dreaded single’s table at a wedding. This leads her to the website Hotties4Hire. What is the harm? She just needs a companion for the wedding to avoid looks of pity. She agrees to meet her hottie for coffee to make sure she wants to proceed. Theo is not who she pictured when she signed up. He is a bit brash and he riles Claire up when he reads her minutes into meeting her. She doesn’t like him pointing out why she is single. But desperate times call for desperate measures and she agrees to the date. They hit it off and they have one hot night together. Theo is clear with Claire that he can’t give her anything but a one night stand. The girl who is afraid to take risks decides to throw caution to the wind anyway.

Claire was a great heroine. She is lacking self-confidence but she is sweet and kind. She is also stubborn and set in her ways. The problem is she is too nice and not willing to takes risks to get what she wants. Theo has secrets and lots of baggage. He doesn’t see himself as good enough for Claire. He has major abandonment issues. But the more time he spends with Claire the more conflicted he is about where his life is headed. He is afraid of Claire judging him for his past mistakes. But Claire doesn’t judge people. She is gentle, loving, kind, loyal, and she is just what Theo needs in his life.

This has to be one of my favorite Melanie Harlow books. I really liked both Theo and Claire. They have to put in some work to get their HEA but they were perfect together. Well Done!

From New York Times bestseller Katy Regnery comes a new twist on a beloved fairytale.

In this modern retelling of The Little Mermaid, a fisherman's daughter from an Outer Banks island untouched by time, meets the son of the North Carolina governor at a fancy party she helps to cater.

Years later, when fate finds them together once again, they will discover the terrifying depth of the secrets they kept from each other, and learn that shattered hearts can only be healed by a love that willfully refuses to die.

I liked this book a lot. When I finished I let out a sigh and smiled. It was the perfect balance of sweet and angsty.

Laire (an anagram of Ariel) grew up in a small fishing town in North Carolina. An old-fashioned town, conservative in thinking, where everyone's life path is planned from birth. For men, fishing. For women, getting married and having babies. Only Laire wants no part of it. She wants to move to a big city and go to school for fashion design. A husband and children are in the distant future.

While making a crab delivery across the water, Laire meets Erik. Erik also has his life path planned. He's the governor's son, he's set to go to law school, and eventually into politics. He doesn't want that for himself but he also doesn't care enough to object. But when he meets Laire it's life-altering. They spend the summer together falling in love.

Circumstances (*cough*Ursula*cough*) rip the couple apart and it's six long years before they're reunited. Erik lives a half life. He's sworn off love and women and he's become cold. Laire, however, left Erik with something to live for. I usually don't like this particular trope. I always think there better be a good reason for it. And I wasn't completely on board. But I get it. Laire had to be metaphorically silenced instead of physically as with Ariel. But that's the only thing I didn't care for.

I liked the way Regnery included all the major and minor characters - Laire (Ariel), Erik, Ursula, Vanessa, Sebastian, Flounder, Triton, Poisson, etc. I thought it was clever that they weren't all literal or expected. It wasn't cheesy and I appreciated that.

Even though this plot has been done many, many times before (I'm not talking about The Little Mermaid, I'm talking about the rich guy, poor girl, secret love, misunderstandings, separation, reunion, hea) it still felt fresh and I was hooked from beginning to end. It was very romantic and I highly recommend to any reader that likes sweet Heroes. Well done!

Review & Purchase Links Preston's Honor by Mia Sheridan

There were two brothers—identical twins—and though I loved them both, my soul belonged to only one.

Annalia Del Valle has loved Preston Sawyer all her life. The daughter of an impoverished migrant farmworker, she grew up as an outcast in what was no more than a tiny, cooped up shack in California’s Central Valley. But her heart found freedom in the land, in the wide-open spaces of Sawyer Farm, and in the boys who were her only friends.

Preston has yearned for Annalia since he was a boy. But a sense of honor kept him from pursuing her until he’s unable to hold back any longer and their worlds—and bodies—collide one hot summer night. A night that sets off a chain of events that will alter their lives forever.

Now Annalia is back in town after disappearing without a trace for six long months. Determined to reclaim her heart, her life, and the baby she left behind—the son who was created in a moment of lust and love and pent-up yearning.

Preston has survived grief, a ravaging drought, and the despair of heartache, but he’s not sure he can survive Annalia again. And he might be unwilling to try. Will pride and bitterness keep him from the one thing he’s always longed for?

How do you heal what is irreparably broken? How do you forgive that which is unforgivable? How do you discover that real honor comes not from circumstance, but from the place deep in our hearts where truth resides? And how do you move beyond the wounds of the past to discover that some loves are as solid as the ground beneath your feet, and as enduring as the earth itself?

THIS IS A STAND-ALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, INSPIRED BY GEMINI. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Preston's Honor is now LIVE on ALL PLATFORMS for the limited time release price of $3.99.

Angie's Review

*4.5 stars*

That was pretty fantastic. Annalia (Lia) is the daughter of a migrant farm worker turned motel housekeeper. While working on the Sawyer farm, Lia met twin brothers, Preston and Cole Sawyer. Even though Lia's mom moved on to another job, the three remained best friends.

As they grew older, Lia knew Preston was the one for her. However, both Sawyer boys wanted her. Preston stepped aside so Cole could pursue her. Four long years of misunderstandings and not speaking up (by Preston or Lia) kept them apart. But one night Preston and Lia can no longer deny their attraction.

From the blurb you know a baby was born from that night and Lia left them both for six months. You may be thinking what on Earth would possess a mother to do that and Sheridan takes us there.

I just loved Lia in this book. She stole my heart. I felt her struggle and I was so happy when she found her voice. I thought Sheridan was spot on when describing the effects of(view spoiler). It's real.

And Preston. My poor dear boy. He always tried to do the right thing. But he had to learn being all in for one thing doesn't mean he can neglect everything or everyone else.

My only minor complaints would be that the miscommunication started to get a little frustrating and the sexual tension was stab-worthy. But still I thought this story was a success and highly emotional. Well done.

3.5 stars
Rise is the story of Adelaide Hassan. At a young age her father is implicated in accounting fraud at Enron. This leaves her father on the run and mother and siblings hiding with new identities so they can try and move on with life. The experience has left Adelaide bitter and angry at her mother who has continued to love her father. She has worked hard to become a lawyer and his now living in London. Adelaide keeps her walls up and is afraid of becoming her mother. In London she meets Simon and they are instantly attracted. Simon is a hard working architect with secrets of his own. There is a constant push and pull between these two. Simon is currently caring for his baby nephew because his sister is in jail. Due to the damage of his childhood he feels he has to be on his game at all times for his family. He wants Adelaide but doesn’t feel like he can make time for her.

I really liked how this story started out. I liked both Simon and Adelaide and their chemistry. Simon’s secrets about his situation were frustrating. He kept leaving Adelaide hanging when he should have just told her what was going on in life instead of being so secretive. I felt it a bit forced. For the most part the writing was pretty strong until midway and then it started feeling a bit stilted. I think that was partly due to the sexy times. While these two were very hot together the dirty talk felt off. I am not sure why.

I would have also liked a deeper exploration into the FBI story and investigation into her father. I felt like this was a missed opportunity and could have added some excitement to the story. The end of the book was confusing to me. While I loved that Simon and Adelaide worked things out and got their HEA the story with the father was hanging. No I don’t think Rise is a cliffy but where do the mother and father end up as far as the case goes?

All in all I didn’t love this book but I didn’t hate it either. I enjoyed it. I really appreciated the uniqueness of the characters and storyline. I also loved the setting and the author did a great job with the detail here. It was a good debut and I would definitely pick up another book by Dylan Allen.

Release Tour & Review - The Failing Hours by Sara Ney

Title: How To Date A Douchebag: The Failing Hours
Author: Sara Ney
Genre: New Adult, Sports Romance, College Romance
Release Date: January 31, 2017

Zeke Daniels isn't just a douchebag; he's an asshole.
A total and complete jerk, Zeke keeps people at a distance. He has no interest in relationships—most assholes don’t.
Dating? Being part of a couple? Nope. Not for him.
He's never given any thought to what he wants in a girlfriend, because he's never had any intention of having one.
Shit, he barely has a relationship with his family, and they're related; his own friends don’t even like him.
So why does he keep thinking about Violet DeLuca?
Sweet, quiet Violet—his opposite in every sense of the word.
The light to his dark, even her damn name sounds like rays of sunshine and happiness and shit.
And that pisses him off, too.

4.5 stars

Oh boy, I was worried I was going to hate Zeke. He is a jerk. He is so angry at the world and lashes out. He won’t even confide in his best friend as to why he is so cold and mean.

This all changes when he meets Violet DeLuca. Violet has been assigned as Zeke’s tutor and at their first meet she runs away because he intimidates her. They soon cross paths again and Zeke is drawn to Violet. She is sweet, polite, generous, and shy. Basically she is exactly his opposite but the kind of person Zeke needs in his life. This could be toxic for Violet because Zeke can hurt her but she starts to see through him.

"He swears too much. He isn’t nice. He isn’t sweet. He isn’t kind. Or generous with words. Or affection. But he’s reliable. Dependable. And he was there for me tonight."

Zeke’s coach has also set him up in the local big brother program. He is trying to get Zeke to open up and care about people. This relationship helps Zeke grow and you begin to see that he does have a big heart. He is just scared of it being crushed so he lashes out.

I really enjoyed this story. Zeke and Violet are a great couple. He is dark to her light but they both found what they needed in each other. Well done!

"I took so much pleasure in Zeke’s looming destruction (insert evil laugh)...." - The Reading Belles

The clock on the wall counts the seconds, steady as the rhythm of my beating heart, which thumps wildly within my chest until the glass door to the library opens, propelled by a gust of wind.

Some new fallen leaves flutter in, the heavy doors slamming from the draft.

Along with them? Zeke Daniels.

He shuffles in, dark gray sweatpants hanging low on his hips, black Iowa Wrestling hoodie pulled up over his head, the university’s bright yellow mascot screen-printed across the chest. Backpack slung over one shoulder, black athletic flip-flops, and a pair of black sunglasses perched on the bridge of his strong nose complete the overall ensemble.
He is utterly…ridiculous.

His arrogance knows no bounds; I can see it in his loose gait, the exaggerated swagger, and the too-casual way he’s dragging his flip-flops across the cold, marble tile floor. It’s noisy, irritating, and completely uncalled for.

In the moment, my mind drifts to his personal life, and I theorize that he listens to heavy metal music to sooth his foul temperament, drinks his coffee black—as black as his soul—and his liquor straight up. I imagine once he’s had sex with someone, they’re never invited back. I go one step further and theorize that they’re never invited to spend the night at his place, either.

Zeke Daniels makes his way to a table at the far end of the room, near the periodicals, one out of the way with plenty of privacy.

Sets his bag down in one of the four wooden chairs. Flicks on the small study lamp. Plugs his laptop cord into the base and stands.

Our eyes would have met then were it not for those ludicrous sunglasses. I choose the exact moment he lifts his gaze to look down at the ground. Busy myself with shuffling papers on the counter. Count to ten instead of chanting, Please don’t come over, please don’t come over, please don’t come over…

But luck isn’t on my side because he most decidedly does.

Makes his way over like a predator at a pace so deliberate, I’m convinced he’s doing it on purpose. As if he suspects I’m watching from under my long lashes, dreading his imminent arrival.

He basks in my discomfort.

The distance between us closes, his strides purposeful.

Twenty feet.

His large hand reaches up, pushing down the hood of his sweatshirt, his fingertips pinching the earpiece of his sunglasses and pulling them off his face. My eyes follow the movements as he folds them closed, hanging them on the neckline of his hoodie.

His gaze lingers—those clear gray eyes famous around campus—and finds the shiny silver bellhop bell perched on the counter with the sign next to it that reads, Ring for help.

The tip of his forefinger presses down on the small bell.

He hits it again, despite me standing not three feet in front of him.

What an ass.

Purveyor of all things witty & romantic, I love: iced latte's, traveling, and bright, bold colors. On any given day, you can find me in my office, lovingly gazing at my bookshelf or shuffling my Bic felt-tip pen collection. I love hand writing letters, and sarcasm.

I live in the midwest, but "Will Write for Travel," and believe everyone should follow their dreams, no matter how big or small. My favorite authors include Cindy Miles, S Walden, Suzanne Enoch, Tessa Dare (to name a few). I am a glutton for Historical, RomCom, Sports and MC romance.

One husband. Two daughters. Plenty of chaos.

Never again would I allow my heart to become the plaything of someone else. Never again would I let a man (or men) ...
